please blind people, be careful when you vape

not sure if all of you know, but its really easy to screw up your device when vaping if you can't see enough to place batteries properly. I just got a quad 18650 unit, and the terminals were not labeled clearly, they all felt the same. well when I put the batteries in and closed the unit, it started heating up and I smelled a really sweet smell so I opened it up and dumped the batteries. Turnes out I prevented thermal runaway, and battery venting. for those who don't know what that is, its when a battery is put through something it was not built for and it fails. Venting can be a small puff and some fumes, or it can be a jet of flame shooting from the casing. I had 4 18650 sells in an inclosed space, I could have really hurt myself and the people around me. the lesson is, if you vape, go to a damn shop if you are not totally sure what your doing, or you could blow a hole in yourself as I could have just done.

If you feel carefully, the positive and negative ppolls on the 18650's are different, one is flat where the other has a more rounded feel, If you also feel the rapping on the positive end of the battery, you should feel some bumps around the top if this is making sence, I've never had this problem before, and have had several mods. Get the plastic cases for your batteries and keep them in your pocket that way. totaly safe!

I can tell the battery poles, I was talking about the mods terminals. they all feel the exact same. look at the maxo.

Mods are quite different from ready to go units and yes, for blind folks does need to come with a strong warning label. I use an ELeaf IStick 40W and a Kangor tank. It is a ready to go unit which is easy to change coils, and easy to use and the settings can be locked so you don't change them. I myself am not into cloud chasing which, for me, is the only reason I could see using a mod. Yes, they're cool for sure, but be very aware of the dangers associated.

I have won several cloud comps, witch is why I need a unit that big;. I have to depend my title in my town after all!

I mean its cool for sure, but knowledge is power so folks do need to be aware of the very real dangers. If you have in depth knowledge of modding as a blind person, I'd be happy to take an article or how to guide if you want to write one and post it on my website. I'm all about sharing information to people, especially those who are blind doing things outside of the usual garb we see about and topics blind folks just don't talk about much. So anyway its cool for folks to be outside the box doing things like configuring vape mods. Pm me if you want to send me a write-up.

I build my own coils and I preach battery safety. but a lack of sight can still get you in trouble with new devices.
when in doubt, ask for help. I would choak down my pride before putting myself and others around me in danger any day.

Post 8 by just-chillin (Zone BBS is my Life) on Thursday, 30-Mar-2017 16:24:42

Absolutely. Like I said if you've got some insight on your techniques I'd gladly have you write an article for me and I'll share the knowledge from a blind perspective.

I would love to. I know ways to learn menu's, build and properly whick coils, filling non visually, battery placement, and things not to do if your not sure as demonstrated by this post. feel free to private message me with what you want and I will type it up today if you want.

A little bit off topic here but I got a money identifier with batteries included. When I put a battery into the identifier, it started to get hot. I took the battery out of the identifier immediately and threw the battery away. Quite honestly, I don't think batteries should be sent through the mail with a device of any kind for the blind. I would have to look at my identifier but I think it was a triple A battery. Am always surprised to see batteries included with devices the way mail gets thrown around.

did it have a wrap on it?

LTE very good post.
I vape, marijuana personally. I use a pocket model since the Better Half is not what they now call "420-friendly", only tolerant in the "You know I'd rather you didn't|" sense.
I say all that to say we've had explosions in the pocket models also. Of course all the "concerned" like to have a field day with this, but a basic understanding of DC electronics -- nothing too terrible poor souls -- generally cures this.

In short, with your model, you would have gotten an electrical short circuit if what you were doing was AC powered, since the current has to go back and forth in that case.
You're right to check your terminals, and also if possible run the device with the chassis open (do they call it a chassis?) Anyhow, just to watch what's going on and see things aren't heating up.

Those of us with pen models, the reasons for pocket explosions not of the billiards variety are one of two:
The button models simply had the button press against something long enough to heat the tank and since nobody's puffing, back pressure builds up and we all know what happens.
The auto-draw models, my personal method, are designed for us old fatties who are just used to taking hits. You "suck start" it with a few quick puffs, then take the load. What makes these spontaneously go off is any excess vibration can be interpreted by the actuator as a puff.
Think about when you suck start it; you're hitting that switch several times to wake up the heat coils.

With the pen models, don't listen to the prohibitionists, we already know you don't. Just unscrew the tank from the electronics, or the dome, and store them separately. Mine has a case where each has a compartment.
Not exactly like pulling a j and a light from a pocket and taking a hit. But the simplest way to save your "juice" as the cleanies vapers call it, or hash for the rest of us. You waste none.
Your tank or cart is set up so it won't leak. Well I don't know about the juice carts, hash being more of a waxy substance.
Most these problems you see on TV about vaporizer danger are pretty preventable.

Thanks for your post. Much as it pains me to sound like some other kinda people ... education is the key.

agreed. I have decided to go with the rx300, a unit that has separate tubes for each 18650. normally I am very safe, I always re rap when my batteries casing is damaged until I notice that the draw from the sell is starting to degrade. what happened here was that the reverse polarity protection circuit failed in the unit. So even if I made a boo boo again, the unit I am getting is from a company I use all the time, so I feel good about the fact that I won't almost blow anything up again. Thurmal runaway is a bitch. thanks for the good reply.

Good you brought this up, so the prohibitionists aren't the only voice on the common market talking about these things.
Now we just need to get legal cannabis in your area. Not just medical, but recreational.
I use recreationally but in part for medical reasons -- chronic migraines. A quick puff and I'm back to work instead of puking my guts out, medical types be damned. Rather than do the paper on medical, I go recreational so I'm free to enjoy the THC ... although not like I used to hehe.
People vape a lot of things, though. Both legal-everywhere herbal remedies, and even some treats and things done by pastry chefs. I don't do any of that stuff, but I know quite a few who do. Me, I'll stick to Ms. Mary Jane. But vaping can do a lot of things for a lot of people.

Yes the batteries had wraps on them, but that sure did no good.

that doesn't matter. I think you missed the point of this post b

Well then, now I know what I'm going to do on my day off during training at GDB's Oregon campus. I'm going to visit Leo. lol

Uh oh, thought I was the lone Oregonian, can't escape no matter where I turn lol.

Safer to just eat it or smoke it. No batteries required. Smile.

I am not talking about flower here.

*raises hand as Oregonian* this was really interesting. As someone who doesn't vape, I was interested to know about the issues. Thanks!

I just smoke or use edibles. Hi-Fi makes very good chocolate bars and the Cannacare lemonades are really good, too.

Not for me.

The real difference when vaping is waste. No matter how good you are, you always lose some when smoking it.
But vaping, it's all yours. And unless you're vaping wax / shatter, you're vaping tincture, very concentrated.
I had a very nice staycation, shall we say, this past weekend. Two trips in fact, one per hit, of this particular strain I have. Smoking would have required a few hits to get that much. It was very nice, 'must say.
Nothing like an old-fashioned doobie or pipe / bong, but vaping is definitely not the candy-ass way many would have you believe.
Plus, vaping pot is a lot different from other eJuices where people do puff after puff after puff at one sitting.
Of course, your mileage may vary; I tend to take big hits and hold them for at least half a minute.
Edibles are less predictable but of course lots of fun -- yours truly in a former existence used to make one killer spaghetti sauce out of straight buds and a crock pot.
I find vaping to be very controlled. Nothing tastes as good as pure buds of course, but the vape tinctures do pretty damned well. The strain I have now is 56% THC and I bought it for $60 / gram. Flower will always be cheaper than concentrate of any form. But you have to buy more of it to get the goods. It's all good, just depends on what you're after at the time.

Never tried this, and won't be.
I really thought once it was legal here, we'd have more users, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Less crime though, so a good thing.
I'm still not interested in it, but I'm glad it is legal.
Solves many problems, both health, and legal for many people.
